Happy New Year!! 2018

Happy New Year!! 2018

Posted by Pam Watson on 10th Jan 2018

We are OFFICIALLY in 2018!! For some… it’s just another day, and for others, it’s a time to think upon our lives and make some changes for improvement. I’m on both sides. I typically don’t like doing anything special for New Year’s Eve except for spending time with a loved one; reflecting on our relationship - the good, the bad, etc. I’ve set aside a few changes I’d like to make this year like finishing things I’ve started… and this card is one example of just that.

I began this card in December and knew I wanted to do a New Year’s theme with champagne glasses. I chose to use the Martini glasses from the Krazy Kreations Drinks outline sticker and color them as champagne glasses. I stuck them onto some Krazy Kreations Micro Fine Glitter Paper (Cool Highlights), and then used my Copic markers to color in the stickers. For the actual glass, I used Copic Sketch Neutral Gray markers N0 and N2. Next, I colored the “champagne” using Copic Sketch Y21 Buttercup Yellow and my 0 Colorless Blender. I used the Colorless Blender to “blend” out the Buttercup Yellow to give it some shading. I basically was picking up the color from the outside edges and moving it toward the middle for some dimension. To top off my glasses, I used some Ranger Glossy Accents and created “bubbles” in the champagne to give it some realism! Then that was it. That was it for 2017.

Moving forward to 2018, I finally had the inspiration and idea to help me finish my card. I decided to stick with the white, black and gold theme to match the champagne glasses. I cut some gold glitter paper to 5.5” x 4.25” and adhered that to my card base. Then I die cut a stitched rectangle from black paper to place over the gold. Lastly, I pulled some pretty gold embossed star paper I had in my stash and cut it down to adhere it to the black paper. I love creating “mattes” on my cards to help round them out and give them a finished look.

To add to the gold glitter star background, I used the star sticker from Krazy Kreations Holiday Trees Outline Stickers to add some open stars to my background and more interest.

I created another matte using black and gold glitter paper for my sentiment “Cheers” and used the letter stickers from Krazy Kreations Alphabet stickers to create my word. I also used them on the inside of the card to finish my sentiment “to a happy New Year.”

I really love how this card came out. It’s funny to think that I was going to give up on this card and start over, but telling myself I needed to finish the card I started gave myself the motivation to come up with something perfect to celebrate the New Year! I hope everyone had a safe and happy New Year’s Eve! 2018 is here; BRING IT! :D
